Witch ability
🔄 Before Becoming a Witch | Swap (Irekawari)
Exchanges mind/soul with the person she holds hands with. This magic belongs to Milia's soul rather than her body, so she can activate it while in another person's body. The activation condition is that both parties agree to hold hands.
🫂 After Becoming a Witch
Her magic is enhanced, granting an ability similar to mental sharing: she can swap souls, time, magic, and various other things, specifically manifested as being able to exchange (share) thoughts with others.
She shows great reluctance to use magic, is extremely guilty about the topic of magic, and even denies the existence of magic.
Backstory
Early Life
In the past, Milia only tried to please those around her, getting lost in the tide of cliques and divisions. To fit in with her friends, she sent her private photos to a friend's group chat, which were then widely circulated, and she was condemned by many.
Just as she was being harassed and on the verge of despair, she met an upright lawyer (whom Milia called "teacher"). This lawyer stopped Milia from attempting suicide, used her "Swap" magic to exchange bodies with her, and promised to help solve her problems.
After living in the teacher's body for about half a year, Milia switched back to her original body and found that her previous problems had been resolved through legal means. She thus pulled herself together, wanting to change herself, and began studying legal knowledge with the teacher as her role model. Since she was not yet ready to fully accept her current self, she began calling herself "old man" and imitated the teacher in speech, behavior, and hobbies. However, the harm caused by this experience could not be completely erased, and "being exposed on social media" became Milia's taboo.
Story Performance
Emma Arc
Milia was kidnapped along with the other twelve girls to the Witch's Prison, sharing a cell with Hasumi Reia. During her self-introduction, she displayed extreme awkwardness and helplessness; she would use the film projector in the recreation room to show movies, and was described by Tachibana Sherry as "the kind of girl you'd see in school." In the Emma arc, Milia is ultimately killed by Natsume Anan.
Hiro Arc and Witch's Repose Arc
In the Shiro arc and the Witch's Repose arc, Milia survives.
Role in the Story
In the early stages, Milia was suspected by players and other characters alike of "definitely having something wrong with her." When she appeared at the Prison Mansion, she was identified by Kurobe Nae-chan's "Phantom Sight" magic as the mastermind. But as the story progressed, her true character gradually became clear.
Character Evaluation and Anecdotes
"The True Angel"
"She's basically the only character who stays good from start to finish, since even Emma has a dark phase."
— Player ReviewsSaeki Milia is the only character who never has any intention to kill throughout the entire game (except after becoming a witch), and is revered by players as "Saint Milia," "A True Angel," and "The Utmost Good Person." The other character who has murderous thoughts but tries her best to avoid them every time is Fuji Arisa.
Other anecdotes
- To follow in her teacher's footsteps, she calls herself 'Uncle' and refers to other characters with prefixes like 'Little X'.
- When talking about her past, she often only says half of the story, which once led to a misunderstanding by Natsuka Kurobe.
- The rebuttal voice line is "Objection!", considered a NETA of Phoenix Wright from the Ace Attorney series.
- Nicknames include: Uncle, Gal, Mimi, Little Angel Miliya, Extra Girl, Small Fry, Bomb Disposal Expert, etc.
- First person is "ojisan" (uncle), second person is "kimi".
